Reasons to Choose Porcelain
In general, the majority of our Fresno customers choose porcelain tiles for their bathroom floor and walls. The reason for this is simple. Porcelain is a denser, less porous and more durable option that is perfect for bathrooms where water spillage is all too common.
In addition, the relatively refined nature of porcelain makes it a perfect material for in-floor heating. This ensures that your feet remain warm on cold Fresno winter mornings.
Finally, porcelain has incredible design versatility. Our porcelain tiles can be designed and created in a range of colors and also possess the right characteristics to be molded into other materials such as stone, granite and limestone.
Two Types of Porcelain Tile
At Aust Fabrication we offer two main types of porcelain tiles; through-bodied and glazed.
Through-bodied, as the name suggests, are porcelain tiles where the color and texture are consistent throughout the tile. This is perfect for areas of high footfall as it can easily disguise chips and surface level markings. It has no glaze finishing and is generally used on floors and walls.
By contrast, the glazed option is a porcelain tile that has been covered with a hard layer finish that is generally colored. The unique selling point of this option is the fact that it is extremely dense and comes in a wide range of colors and designs.
Porcelain versus Ceramic Tiles
For many the terms porcelain and ceramic are interchangeable and, as such, are one in the same. The truth however is that while they share many similarities there is a number of unique difference between these two tile types.
Firstly, while neither tile is perfectly suited to exterior settings, the fact of the matter is that porcelain tiles are much more adept at surviving unscathed from being installed outside the confines of a warm home.
Secondly, porcelain is denser and less porous than ceramic tiles and is therefore more resistant to moisture. This makes it a better tiling option for bathroom floors and walls.
Finally, thanks in large parts to it are through body composition, porcelain tiles are more durable than ceramic tiles.
